Hey, Steph here.
The Indie Alley isn’t supported by me alone—it’s built by a collective of local people I’m lucky to call friends. It’s become a space where we can step away from home offices and coffee shops, take the classes we actually want to take (without crossing a bridge to do it), and come together over board games or cocktails. It’s here when you need a break from everything that’s constantly pulling at your attention.
We all arrived here—both in Fairfax and at The Indie Alley—from very different places. Some of us come from creative industries like music, the arts, and publishing. Others simply know they do their best work nowhere near anything that feels like a traditional office.
As for me, I’m a straight-talking East Coaster with a touch of California hippie. I’ve made this place my home, and I want to give back to our community here in Fairfax.
There’s a bit more about me below if you’re curious—but honestly, what we’d really love is for you to stop by and say hi. Everyone’s welcome, wherever you are in your work or your life. Just be you.
See you soon.
STEPH HARTY
Founder and owner of The Indie Alley. Steph’s a professional in the music industry who’s worked for the Walt Disney Company, Sony Music and Universal Music Group. In 2011, realizing the corporate culture wasn’t for her, Steph started her own music promotion shop called Mad Hank Music. She’s worked with today’s most successful pop and rock bands and develops new talent.
Jersey. New York. DC. LA. Chicago. Fairfax. Steph’s career has taken her cross country. But she found home when she landed here in Fairfax. As an entrepreneur and a mom to two kids, Adrian and Hank, Steph knows how to do the working mom shuffle. Surrounded by other entrepreneurial men and women, and wanting to find a place to work outside the home, Steph saw a need for a place for us to be together.
So begins the story of The Indie Alley. It’s a place to work, a place to collaborate, a place to boost one another in this thing called life.
