Virtual! Estate Planning: Your Advance Healthcare Directive

Are you expected to make healthcare decisions on behalf of a sibling or parent but feel under-prepared?

In this workshop we’ll start by dispelling some advance care planning myths, gain familiarity with common terms, and take a tour of an Advance Healthcare Directive form. At the end of this workshop you’ll be prepared to start documenting your healthcare goals, values, and preferences that you can share with your health care providers and loved ones – or to begin discussions with loved ones about their wishes – so that you are prepared in the event you find yourself faced with a health crisis.

In this workshop we will:

  • Review an Advance Directive form

  • Identify the parties involved in developing your Advance Directive and making it legal

  • Discuss how to choose your Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care

Bio:

Josaphine Buennagel

At age 24, Josaphine received a phone call from the hospital that her mother had fallen ill in the night and was in a coma. Fourteen hours later, after receiving a number of medical interventions but never recovering, her mother passed away. That experience, as well as coping with her father’s decade with Parkinson’s, has shown Josaphine the need for documented – and discussed – choices for medical treatments. She now leads individuals through the process of exploring their preferences and then documenting and communicating them to loved ones and health care providers.

Marina Emery

I know how illness and pain challenge even the strongest people. And I have an intimate understanding of how the health system works. I am dedicated to giving you a voice, getting the answers you deserve, and providing peace of mind when you need it most. Marina is here because I know you need support in the most uncharted of waters, and I’ve worked diligently to bridge the gap from provider, to patient, to family—so the patients can feel confident in what’s happening, and the families feel at ease that their loved ones are being supported in all the ways they need.
